Bringing the Library to Life With Art!
We are thrilled to showcase the talents of our community’s artists while supporting both local creativity and our Library.
Our gallery will feature a diverse array of artwork throughout the year, ranging from paintings and photographs to mixed media pieces. Each piece is available for purchase, providing an opportunity for art enthusiasts to bring a piece of local talent into their offices or homes.
What makes our gallery unique is our commitment to supporting artists and our Library’s mission. When a piece is sold, the Library receives a 20% donation from the sale. This not only helps sustain our library’s operations but enables us to continue providing valuable resources and programming to the community.
For local artists, this partnership offers a platform to showcase their work to a wider audience and potentially generate income from their art. It fosters a supportive environment where artists can thrive and connect with art lovers in the community.
If you are interested in having your art showcased in the Library, please email twall@fspl.ca.
The current art display will be available for viewing and purchase until April 2025. If you’re interested in purchasing a piece or have any inquiries, please speak to the staff at the front desk. We’re excited to share the talents of our local artists with you and invite you to explore the beauty and creativity in the Library!
About Alex Halliburton
“Pastel Paintings by Alex Halliburton express his appreciation of Canadian Sports, Wildlife and Nature. The lifelike precision of his Art captures the Character, Mood and extreme realism of the people and animals he loves to paint.
He precisely depicts every minute detail of the subjects he paints.
Halliburton was born in the City of Glasgow, Scotland and has enjoyed his art since he was a young boy. John Lusk, his high school art teacher encouraged him to continue to paint and a fellow tradesman influenced him to use pastels as a complete and finishing art form.
Pastel is pure powdered pigment, the same colouizer used to produce oil, acrylic, water colour and all other fine art paints, however, pastel excludes the moist admixture that causes most other mediums to fade, scale, blister or crack with time.
This pure ancient and beautiful medium used on acid free materials, is, in this Artist’s opinion, the most stable and long lasting medium known.
Pastels by Rosalba Carriera and other Masters such as Lautrec, Millet, Renoir, and Manet are as bright and vibrant as the day they were painted.
Edgar Degas was the most prolific Pastellist and in the Spring of 1983 Sotheby Parke and Bernet auctioned off two of his pastels, painted more than one hundred years earlier, for more than three Million Dollars each.
Pastellists are few and far between and this Artist, with use and practice, has raised the medium to a very high standard.”
