About the Art Gallery

Bringing the Library to Life With Art!

We are thrilled to showcase the talents of our community’s artists while supporting both local creativity and our Library.
Our gallery will feature a diverse array of artwork throughout the year, ranging from paintings and photographs to mixed media pieces. Each piece is available for purchase, providing an opportunity for art enthusiasts to bring a piece of local talent into their offices or homes.

What makes our gallery unique is our commitment to supporting artists and our Library’s mission. When a piece is sold, the Library receives a 20% donation from the sale. This not only helps sustain our library’s operations but enables us to continue providing valuable resources and programming to the community.

For local artists, this partnership offers a platform to showcase their work to a wider audience and potentially generate income from their art. It fosters a supportive environment where artists can thrive and connect with art lovers in the community.

If you are interested in having your art showcased in the Library, please email twall@fspl.ca.

The current art display will be available for viewing and purchase until September 2024. If you’re interested in purchasing a piece or have any inquiries, please speak to the staff at the front desk. We’re excited to share the talents of our local artists with you and invite you to explore the beauty and creativity in the Library!

Current Artist - Paul Braid

About Paul Braid: A Lifetime of Art
Paul Braid devoted over 65 years to painting landscapes, portraits, and scenes from life, beginning his artistic journey at just 13 and continuing until his passing in December 1999. He had the privilege of studying under Franklin Carmichael, a member of Canada’s renowned Group of Seven, and graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1947. In 1953, Paul moved west, where he embraced a wide range of styles and mediums, teaching for the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension and painting full-time until October 1999.

Paul’s passion for history and nature shines through his work, particularly his depictions of Alberta’s majestic landscapes and historical homesteads. His art beautifully captures the essence of Alberta’s natural beauty and heritage.

We are delighted to display Paul’s work at our library, thanks to the generosity of Kathrine Braid, Paul’s wife and a talented artist herself. To explore more of Paul’s legacy, visit https://www.paulbraid.ca/index.htm
