Can't find it in our catalogue?

Don't worry! We can help you get the item you want.

Home > Service > Recommend an Item

Our library is connected to libraries throughout Alberta and Canada, working together to give you access to what you want. And we always welcome suggestions for purchasing an item to add to our library. Just click on "Suggest an item" below and fill out the form!

The Interlibrary Loan Service attempts to get materials you need from other libraries’ collections, such as Edmonton Public Library, the University of Alberta Library, etc.
Please note:

  • Please check the FSPL Library Catalogue before placing any requests.
  • Items from the Strathcona County Library can be ordered by placing a hold on items in the FSPL Library’s Catalogue.
  • Requests are accepted from all customers with a valid Fort Saskatchewan Public Library card in good standing. You must use your own card when you request an interlibrary loan.
  • Items published within the past year cannot be requested. If you would like FSPL to purchase the item, please complete a Suggest New Items request (see below).
  • Please limit your interlibrary loan requests to 5 items per patron, and wait 3 weeks before making subsequent requests.
  • Depending on the material, an interlibrary loan may take 3 to 6 weeks to obtain.
  • In a rush? Get a free ME Libraries card by registering online which entitles you to visit a participating library to borrow items.

Place a request online by visiting TAL online.

When you request a TAL card at your home library, you can borrow materials in person from any participating TAL library, including academic and government libraries. You can return materials at any participating TAL library. Note that certain special collections may not be available through the TAL program. Loan periods and overdue fines may vary by library – ask the borrowing library for more information about their policies.

The ME Libraries services allows you to borrow materials in person at any public library in Alberta using your local library card. Sign up at melibraries.ca.

Patrons using ME Libraries accounts to borrow items* agree to the following terms:

  • Fees, loan periods, renewals and borrowing limits vary depending on the individual library’s local policies.
  • In general, books have a loan period of 3 weeks, A/V materials have a loan period of 1 week. Some materials have extended loan periods including Book Club kits which have a 6 week loan period.
  • Overdue fines range from $0.05/day to $0.25/day for books and $0.25/day to $2.00/day for A/V materials. Ask the library you visit about their fine rates.
  • Many libraries do not limit the number of items that can be checked out at a time. Some exceptions do exist for special collections.
  • Holds placed by ME Libraries card users must be picked up by the user at the library the item originates from.
  • CNIB materials may only be checked out by borrowers with print disabilities.

*ebooks and other electronic content are not available to ME Libraries card users due to licensing restrictions.
