FSPL Art Gallery

We are thrilled to showcase the talents of our community’s artists while supporting both local creativity and our Library.

Our gallery will feature a diverse array of artwork throughout the year, ranging from paintings and photographs to mixed media pieces. Each piece is available for purchase, providing an opportunity for art enthusiasts to bring a piece of local talent into their offices or homes.

What makes our gallery unique is our commitment to supporting artists and our Library’s mission. When a piece is sold, the Library receives a 20% donation from the sale. This not only helps sustain our library’s operations but enables us to continue providing valuable resources and programming to the community.

For local artists, this partnership offers a platform to showcase their work to a wider audience and potentially generate income from their art. It fosters a supportive environment where artists can thrive and connect with art lovers in the community.

Bio: LeeAnne Johnston

Grew up in Fort Saskatchewan obtaining a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Alberta in 2015.  Their first solo show “Affective Bodies” was displayed at SNAP Gallery in 2019.  They are currently pursuing a Post Grad Certificate in Cultural Heritage Conservation.

This collection of work spans the years LeeAnne spent in their degree and the development of their artistic practice, with a sprinkle of more modern works.  Showcasing the skills they learned and the subjects they focused on, the pieces displayed represent LeeAnne’s love for folklore and surreality.  During their schooling they discovered a passion for printmaking that shows no signs of waning.  Representing a vast timeframe between 2011 and 2020 this showing of work presents to the viewer the development of an artist.

Bio: Pamela Marie Carr

Thank you for stopping by!  I am a bas-relief artist, where my figures elegantly rise from the background.  My work encompasses low, medium, and high relief forms.  Think of the artistry found on coins, ancient Egyptian tombs, or impressive monuments.

My artistic journey started in Petitcodiac, NB, participating in numerous shows, charity auctions, galleries, art exhibitions, coffee houses, city halls, libraries, and events in nearby cities such as Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton, Saint Andrews, Saint Martins, and many more.  Eventually, I made my way to Fort Saskatchewan, where I showcase my work in more art-friendly venues.

Creating each piece begins with building a properly sized canvas tailored to the subject, and sometimes I even assemble multiple canvases.  My process involves softly defining the edges before delving into intense layering of plaster and intricately carving the details.  I spend hours sanding and shaping the plaster until every detail is just right.

The final stage involves applying paint, which requires an array of tools and creative materials.  Each stroke of the palette knife lays the groundwork for vibrant colors and emotional contrasts.  What results is a piece of art set in stone—something to be cherished for years to come.
