The title is accurate. This book is dark and not for everyone. It is a disturbing and at times an uncomfortable read.
At thirty two, Vanessa Wye is floating through life, just getting by.
She works a dead end job and uses recreational drugs. Vanessa has no friends and a strained relationship with her family. She gets word that her former boarding school teacher, Jacob Strane, is being accused of sexually harassing a student. She becomes upset, he was her mentor and former lover and she is firm in the belief that when she was fifteen, their relationship was consensual.
The book divides its time between fifteen year old Vanessa being groomed and entering a relationship with her predatory forty- two year old teacher and thirty-two year old Vanessa still reeling from the long term effects that relationship caused for her.
Extremely well written, My Dark Vanessa is a powerful, thought provoking book.
